  • Dosage

For oral administration only. Tablets are often accepted from the hand. Alternatively, the tablets may be crushed and added to a little food. The standard dose rate is 12.5 mg/kg twice daily. Therapy should be continued for 5-7 days or for 48 hours after all symptoms have subsided. For the majority of infections the above dosage regime is effective. Refractory cases however, particularly those of the respiratory tract, have shown improved cure rates by doubling the dose to 25mg/kg bodyweight twice daily. Chronic or refractory cases: In these cases a longer course of treatment may be required to allow sufficient time for damaged tissue to repair. Based on clinical trials, the following durations are suggested: chronic skin disease 10–20 days, chronic cystitis 10–28 days and respiratory disease 8–10 days.

  • Prudent Use Statement

Potentiated Penicillin (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid) is an antibiotic in the penicillin family and is considered highly important to human and animal health. The use of this antibiotic should only be for the minimum period needed to meet the clinical objective. Clinical response to this antibiotic should be monitored during treatment, and choice of therapy reviewed if clinical signs of disease persist, increase, or relapse. In the event of treatment failure, culture and sensitivity should be considered to determine an appropriate alternative therapy. Indiscriminate use of this antibiotic can contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance.
